나는 무리에 섞이면 눈에 잘 띄지 않는 사람이다. 고만고만한 외모와 성격까지도. 세상은 넓고 뛰어난 사람들도 많다.
욕망은 인간의 본질이라고 했던 스피노자의 말처럼 나 역시도 그런 사람이 되고 싶은 욕망은 늘 달고 살아왔다.
얼룩말은 홀로 있으면 굉장히 눈에 띈다. 풀숲에 있건, 정원에 있건, 하늘 위에 있건, 흑과 백의 무늬는 그의 존재감을 어김없이 드러낸다.
화사한 꽃밭에서 혹은 모래뿐인 삭막한 사막에서도 그는 그렇게 홀로 고고하게 눈에 띄는 존재가 되지만, 그 역시 무리로 들어가면 덩어리로 인식이 된다.
그렇다면 나는 홀로 존재감을 드러내는 얼룩말이 되고 싶은 건가, 아니면 무리 안에 들어간 평온한 얼룩말이 되고 싶은 건가.
일생 동안 무리 지어 살아왔던 평온함을 벗고 나는 결국, 조금은 외롭지만 내 존재감을 드러낼 수 있는 방향을 선택했고, 비로소 나는 자유로워졌다.
얼룩말이 여행하는 이 세계는 관념의 세계일 수도 있고, 현실에서 파생된 현실과 닮아있는 세계일 수도 있다.
물리적으로 묶여 있을 수밖에 없는 스스로가 무리의 프레임을 벗어나 어디로든 가고 싶다는 욕구를 반영하며,
동시에 그 세계에서 존재감을 드러내고자 하는 욕망을 형태적으로 나타내기도 한다.
지금 얽혀 있는 위치와 관계들로부터 벗어나 자유로움을 만끽하는 상상을 캔버스 위에 펼쳐 놓았으니,
관객들도 이 세계에서 자유롭고 싶은 욕망을 상상으로나마 체득하길 바라본다.
I'm a person who doesn't stand out when I'm in a group. Even her appearance and personality are the same.
The world is wide and there are many outstanding people.
As Spinoza said, "Desire is the essence of human beings," I have always lived with the desire to be such a person.
Zebras stand out very much when they are alone.
Whether in the grass, in the garden, or in the sky, the black and white patterns reveal his presence.
In the bright flower fields or in the desolate desert with nothing but sand, he becomes so alone that he stands out,
but he is also recognized as a lump when he enters a group.
Then do I want to be a zebra that reveals my presence alone, or a tranquil zebra that has been in a herd for a lifetime?
I eventually chose a direction to reveal my presence, a little lonely, and finally I was free.
This world where zebras travel may be a world of ideas or a world that resembles reality derived from reality.
It reflects the desire to go anywhere, away from the frame of the group, and at the same time,
it also morphically expresses the desire to reveal its presence in the world.
Having spread the imagination of enjoying freedom away from the current intertwined positions and relationships on the canvas
I hope that the audience will also learn the desire to be free in this world with imagination.
